It was a magical evening. 1500 singers came to Luminato Festival at the Hearn Generating Station in Toronto. Daveed + Nobu (AKA DaBu) taught them back up parts to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, then Rufus Wainwright joined them on stage to sing lead. It was an EPIC NIGHT! to remember.

Lyrics
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah   Hallelujah   Hallelujah   Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

I’m not sure what exactly it is that creates the power behind these moments. Whether it’s the music that is chosen, the individuals who sing it, or the sheer number of people united as one, this video of a 1500-voice choir singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is sure to stir up some emotions.

Choir! Choir! Choir! is a Toronto based group led by Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman. The group is open to anyone, and the choir meets twice weekly to learn new arrangements of pop songs. The group recently came together at the Hearn Generating Station in Toronto and were taught back-up parts to “Hallelujah” prior to Rufus Wainwright (whose cover of the song you may know from “Shrek”) joining them as the lead singer.

The gathering was diverse, encompassing all different nationalities, ethnicities and ages—making the result even more powerful. So take a moment to join the group by singing along or simply by taking the time to watch. Whatever way you are a part of this performance, you will undoubtedly be a part of something bigger than just yourself.
