Kwanzaa is an annual week-long celebration of African American culture, heritage, and community observed from December 26 to January 1. Established in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, the holiday was created for African Americans to connect with their African roots and celebrate family and community values following the 1965 Watts Rebellion.
