Heart-warming moment
Damian Aspinall's wife Victoria
Is accepted by Wild Gorillas
In June 2017 our Chairman, Damian Aspinall and his wife, Victoria, made a special trip to our project in Gabon to oversee the transfer of a young gorilla group from the sanctuary where they met, to our Gorilla Protection Project in the Batéké Plateau National Park. During their trip, Damian and Victoria met up with Djalta and Ima; two male gorillas from Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent, who made the journey back to the wild in 2003.

 Young Orphaned Gorillas:
See Their Adorable Bond With Park Rangers
National Geographic

At the Senkwekwe Center for mountain gorilla orphans in Congo, a handful of Virunga National Park rangers live around the clock with four juveniles whose parents were killed. The rangers see their families only every few weeks and are very close to their charges. Chief caretaker André Bauma along with his team have hand-raised the gorillas since they were first brought to the center. The first gorilla, Ndakasi, was found when she was just two months old, near the body of her murdered mother. Bauma cared for her like a human child—letting her sleep on his chest for warmth and bottle-feeding her to help build her strength. After that, three more orphaned gorillas joined "the family" at the center. Since no mountain gorilla orphan has ever been successfully returned to the wild, they will always depend on humans. To find out more about the heroic efforts to save the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park, tune in to Explorer: Battle for Virunga, June 26 8/7c on National Geographic Channel.

Nino Ferrer 🎼 L' Année Mozart 😀

Nino Ferrer

- Tu viens Micky ?
- Où ça ?
- Dans un bar !
- D'accord ! - D'accord ? - D'accord !
- D'accord, d'accord, d'accord, d'accord, d'accord, d'accord

Bonsoir.!

11 LGBTQ Historic Landmarks
In New York City

Site descriptions have been republished with permission from the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project.

LGBT Community Center
Since 1983, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center has served as a vital support system for hundreds of thousands of people.
The center has witnessed the founding of ACT UP, GLAAD, Las Buenas Amigas, Queer Nation and the Lesbian Avengers and for many years was the meeting location for the Metropolitan Community Church of New York and SAGE.
The Gender Identity Project, which was established here in 1989, is the longest-running service provider for the transgender and gender-nonconforming community in the state.

Christopher Street Piers
For over a century, the Greenwich Village Hudson River waterfront, including the Christopher Street Pier at West 10th Street, has been a destination for the LGBT community that has evolved from a place for cruising and sex for gay men to an important safe haven for a marginalized queer community — mostly queer homeless youths of color.
From 1971 to 1983, the interiors of the piers’ ruin-like terminals featured a diverse range of artistic work, including site-based installations, photography, murals and performances.

Lorraine Hansberry Residence
From 1953 to 1960, playwright and activist Lorraine Hansberry resided in the third-floor apartment of this building.
While here, Hansberry lived parallel lives: one as the celebrated playwright of “A Raisin in the Sun,” the first play by a black woman to appear on Broadway, and the other as a woman who privately explored her homosexuality through her writing, relationships and social circle.

Lesbian Herstory Archives
Founded in 1974, the Lesbian Herstory Archives was first housed on the Upper West Side of Manhattan before opening its current location in Brooklyn’s Park Slope in 1993.
The volunteer-based archives, which also serves as a museum and community center, has one of the world’s largest collection of records “by and about lesbians and their communities,” according to its website

New York Stock Exchange – ACT UP Demonstrations
The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power formed in 1987 to call attention to the AIDS crisis. In 1988 and ’89, it held two huge demonstrations at the New York Stock Exchange to protest the high price of the AIDS drug AZT, which was unaffordable to most people living with HIV.

Stonewall Inn
From June 28 to July 3, 1969, LGBT patrons of the Stonewall Inn and members of the local community took the unusual action of fighting back during a routine police raid at the bar.
The events during that six-day period are seen as the beginning of the modern LGBT rights movement, with large numbers of groups forming around the country in the following years.
The Stonewall Inn was the first LGBT site in the country to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1999) and named a National Historic Landmark (2000), with additional city, state and federal recognition in 2015 and 2016.

Julius’
On April 21, 1966, a sip-in was organized by members of the Mattachine Society, one of the country’s earliest gay rights organizations, to challenge the State Liquor Authority’s discriminatory policy of revoking the licenses of bars that served known or suspected gay men and lesbians.

Rivington House
In 1995 this former public school reopened as a 219-bed nursing home for people with AIDS — the largest of its kind in New York City.
Rivington House was controversially sold by the city to a private developer in 2015.

Audre Lorde Residence
Acclaimed black lesbian feminist, writer and activist Audre Lorde lived here with her partner and two children from 1972 to 1987.
In that time, Lorde was a prolific and influential writer, co-founded Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press and spoke at the 1979 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.

Bayard Rustin Residence
Bayard Rustin, one of the most important yet least-known figures of the civil rights movement, lived in an apartment in this Chelsea building complex from 1963 to his death in 1987.
While here, he served as the lead organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and took part in numerous social justice campaigns around the world.

Transy House
Transy House was a transgender collective operated by Rusty Mae Moore and Chelsea Goodwin from 1995 to 2008.
It provided shelter for trans and gender-nonconforming people in need, served as a center for trans activism and was the last residence of pioneering LGBT rights activist Sylvia Rivera.

Nominations For Monument Honoring Women

City Officials Seek Nominations
For Monument Honoring Women
https://78.media.tumblr.com/a08754297cd32ee44a87e7c965cfba21/tumblr_paqk4xDy3Z1vprwrro5_r1_1280.png
By Rebecca Liebson and Yoav Gonen - June 20, 2018

New Yorkers are getting a chance to correct a historical disparity by nominating women to be honored with statues around the city - 90 percent of which are now dedicated to men.

“Finding monuments that honor women should not be a scavenger hunt,” said First Lady Chirlane McCray, who announced the project at Bryant Park.

Carmen Fariña, Chirlane McCray and Alicia Glen
https://78.media.tumblr.com/6ec48dd57978f905574c3adfbb7b9dd6/tumblr_paqk4xDy3Z1vprwrro1_1280.jpg
“The number of women, both known and unknown to history, worthy of recognition in New York City and New York City’s public spaces is endless - which makes their exclusion so egregious and our campaign to honor them so urgent.”

The initiative, known as “She Built NYC,” will allow the public to submit the names of women who are no longer living, events that occurred at least 20 years ago, or women’s groups.

Submissions can be made online at women.nyc through Aug. 1.

At that point, a 19-member advisory panel chaired by city Records Department Commissioner Pauline Toole will whittle down the nominees to a handful.

The winning honoree will be selected by the Department of Cultural Affairs and announced in January.

Among the names officials floated were

“In Central Park, there are 22 monuments to men and one - to Alice in Wonderland,” said Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, who joined McCray at the park press conference.
“Not even a real woman, you know? Give me a break! Enough is enough!”

Central Park even has a statue of a dog, Balto.

The initiative comes in the wake of Mayor de Blasio’s creation of a monument-review committee, which spent months in late 2017 studying which statues to remove or revise across the five boroughs.

Ultimately, only a single statue - of controversial physician J. Marion Sims - was relocated, from Central Park to Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.

SHE BUILT NYC!
Is the significant first step in creating a public art collection that more fully represents the diverse history of New York City, beginning with commemorations of visionary and inspiring women.

Through August 1 !!!
She Built NYC! invites New York City residents to submit nominations for women or events in women’s history that should be considered for future public commemorations. We ask that individuals limit their nominations to no more than 3.

Criteria for Nominations
  • Event, person, or group must have a *significant* connection to NYC
  • If an event, it must have happened at least 20 years ago; If a person of significance, that person must no longer be living and must be known for an event, movement, or action that took place at least 20 years ago
  • Groups or categories of women, not bound by time, will be taken into consideration (e.g., single mothers, immigrant women, domestic workers, etc.)

Select a nomination
  1. Person of significance
  2. Event of significance
  3. Group of significance

Amazon reforestation:
73 million trees to be planted in tropical reforestation
TomoNews

BRAZIL - A project in the Amazon rainforest is using a new technique to plant trees in the largest ever tropical reforestation. Conservation International plans to restore 70,000 acres of land cleared for grazing with 73 million trees, Fast Company reported.
The trees will be planted in the "arc of deforestation" that stretches across the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Acre, Pará and Rondônia, as well as the Xingu watershed. The planting method is called muvuca, which is Portuguese for a small place with many people. The muvuca method involves spreading hundreds of native tree seeds of various species over deforested land.
Natural selection then allows the most suited trees to grow and thrive in a much thicker density than plant-by-plant reforestation. Plant-by-plant techniques usually have a density of 160 plants per hectare, while with muvuca, the density is 2,500 species per hectare. Scientists believe after 10 years, it could reach 5,000 trees per hectare.

🌱Seedball Making Machine 🌱
Developed by IdeinLab Architects Team
Seed ball making machine developed by my team in Bangalore. It can produce 9,000 seed balls. A seed ball is a clay ball made with soil and compost and a tree or shrub seed ball. When water touches the seed balls they will break open and the plant will sprout. 10% will survive. We plan to make a million seedballs and scatter in them in catchment areas near Mumbai. Wish us luck.

Mozart's Magic Flute 🪄 A Masterpiece 🧙‍♀️

Why Mozart's Magic Flute
Is a Masterpiece

An Introduction
Royal Opera House - Dec 20, 2017
👉 (Complete Opera Below)
The cast and creative team of The Royal Opera's Magic Flute explore what makes Mozart's The Magic Flute a classic.
Mozart wrote Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) for a suburban theatre in Vienna, the Theater auf der Wieden. He drew on the magical spectacle and earthy comedy of popular Viennese theatre. As well as being a comedy, The Magic Flute is an expression of Mozart’s profound spiritual beliefs: Enlightenment concerns with the search for wisdom and virtue are at the heart of this enchanting tale. The Magic Flute was an instant success with audiences and Mozart’s supposed rival Salieri described it as an ‘operone’ – a great opera.
David McVicar’s classic production embraces both the seriousness and comedy of Mozart’s work. The audience is transported to a fantastical world of dancing animals, flying machines and dazzlingly starry skies.
The setting provides a wonderful backdrop for Mozart’s kaleidoscopic score, from the Queen of the Night’s coloratura fireworks to Tamino and Pamina’s lyrical love duets and Papageno’s hearty, folksong-like arias.
