Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (known as PFAS) are long-lasting compounds that are showing up in soil, ground water, drinking water sources, even rainfall, and have been linked to cancer, liver damage, thyroid disease, and other ailments.
By some estimates, this toxic family of chemicals can be found in the blood of nearly every person on the planet. Correspondent Lee Cowan looks at how the chemicals got here, and talks with families, farmers, and health advocates fighting for clean, safe water.

  1. PFAS are in teflon. I stopped cooking with teflon pans sometime ago given PFAS risk.
  2. Thanks for this report. It’s sickening to think these companies knew 60 years ago what the effects of PFAS would be and not stop before it became a worldwide disaster.
  3. Recommend watching the movie, Dark Waters ... a 2019 American legal thriller film directed by Todd Haynes. The story dramatizes Robert Bilott's case against the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont after they contaminated a town with unregulated (PFAS) chemicals.
  4. G R E E D, 1 of the 7 deadly sins compounded by the sin of omission, they knew!
  5. The state of Maine is dumping PFAS into the Penobscot River. The factory needed to clean up the water is too costly. However, the state gave out stimulus checks this year. Priorities πŸ‘ŽπŸ». Do people making 150k need stimulus checks??? The native Penobscot tribe deserves clean water, as does our oceans.
  6. People don't think about how much "CONVENIENCE" really costs.  Think about all the chemicals in "cleaning" products.  People don't think about the fact that these chemicals in up in our drinking water.  People aren't thinking or paying attention.
Welcome white America to water quality issues in Flint, Benton Harbor Michigan and most urban cities in the United States.
  7.  All Air Force Bases run weekly fire training drills involving the use of PFAS Fire Retardant Chemicals that get sprayed on runway tarmac fires, and then hosed off the tarmac onto adjacent fields, and then into the ground water that supply water to to local wells and municipalities that use ground water for drinking water. That's every Air Force Base ... like Kingsley next to Klamath Falls, Oregon; where they train pilots to fly F-15Es armed with B-61 450 KT thermonuclear bombs and F-15Es with microwave laser weapons ... instead of training pilots to fly squadrons of water bombers to put out the fires started by those same microwave lasers igniting 20 years of chem trail particle accelerant deposition. Those weren't con trails ... you fools. NO NWO. General Strike! Regime Change US!
  8.  WINTER = no problem using PFAS ... ROAD SALT / PLANE DE_ICER (used in 70 % of the US) contains PFAS - used in YOUR snow covered area every winter - "I'm OK with it"
  9. SUMMER = problem with PFAS... ( PFAS ) found in my water in the SUMMER... "How did we allow it to get to these levels !? "
  10. Sadly ironic but the yellow jacket the reporter is wearing at 10:55 is most likely made waterproof with the use of PFAs, the stuff is literally everywhere.

  12. (read the book "silent Spring" - 1957 ) YOU knew of this 60 years ago - as well - but decided to IGNORE it / blame "others" for how poisonous the fertilizers & pest killer YOU were putting on your lawns & gardens were - trying to impress the neighbores - with the biggest / most colorful flowers.

Does this mean we should go back to glass and metal drinking vessels? If so, which is best, stainless steel?

I would greatly appreciate documents (PDFs or links) about the specific toxicities of firefighting foams containing PFAS.

A couple of questions spring to mind.
1. What harmful chemicals may we end up finding in the RO filters? How ironic would it be if the cure also was harmful?
2. Does distilling remove these chemicals? That would be a process that would be feasible if not super convenient.
I think it is high time that we make lifestyle choices to eliminate as much plastic and synthetic materials as possible from our lives. If we can get pickle relish in glass containers go that way etc. Time for cast iron to make a comeback.

Nov 26, 2019  The film is inspired by Bilott's real-life saga. The corporate attorney battled chemical giant DuPont over PFOA toxins, which West Virginia native Bucky Bailey and his family say impacted their lives.

Dark Waters is a 2019 American legal thriller film directed by Todd Haynes and written by Mario Correa and Matthew Michael Carnahan. The story dramatizes Robert Bilott's case against the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont after they contaminated a town with unregulated chemicals. It stars Mark Ruffalo as Bilott, along with Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Camp, Victor Garber, Mare Winningham, William Jackson Harper, and Bill Pullman.
The film is based on the 2016 New York Times Magazine article "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare" by Nathaniel Rich. The story was first told in the 2007 book Stain-Resistant, Nonstick, Waterproof and Lethal: The Hidden Dangers of C8 by Callie Lyons, a Mid-Ohio Valley journalist who covered the controversy as it was unfolding. Parts of the story were also reported by Mariah Blake, whose 2015 article "Welcome to Beautiful Parkersburg, West Virginia" was a National Magazine Award finalist, and Sharon Lerner, whose series "Bad Chemistry" ran in The Intercept. Bilott also wrote a memoir, Exposure, detailing his 20-year legal battle against DuPont.
Dark Waters had a limited theatrical release on November 22, 2019, by Focus Features, and went wide on December 6, 2019. The film received positive reviews from critics and has grossed over $23 million.
