Designer Makes His 225-Square-Foot Apartment Work Wonders
While to some, the thought of dwelling in a 225-square-foot apartment sounds cramped and difficult, many find the idea of living small appealing. In the video above, designer J. Michael Moore shares the benefits as well as brilliant small space ideas that he has incorporated into his own tiny New York City home.

When Moore first moved in, the apartment was "hospital green" without any interesting architectural details. He transformed the space by putting his own spin on it and adding crown and base moldings. Monochromatic spaces don't reflect his energetic personality, so he color-blocked bold hues -- sienna red, turquoise, and yellow -- and steered away from busy patterns. He recommends this tactic as his go-to design trick to make a space appear larger.

All of his furnishings are moveable and have multiple uses, and he even installed a sleeping loft over the kitchen so he didn't take up precious real estate with a bed. Moore said that his guests are often surprised that he is able to live and work so comfortably inside, but surprisingly, he says that this style of life causes him less frustration because it's easier to keep neat and tidy.
