What Cats Can Teach Us
About
The Art of  Living Well
 By Rob White
Watching my neighbor's cat, Midge, has taught me much about the art of total living. Midge engages in daily rituals that stop her mind from over-functioning. She creates silent gaps so that she may throw out the craziness that piled up from yesterday. Now, she is free to sharpen her awareness of life around her so that she might enjoy each moment fully.
I consider Midge an everyday, ordinary guru who is passing my way to offer me tips on how to engage in the fine art of living well. Here are five lessons Midge has taught me -- lessons that help me experience a sense of totalness and well-being in all of my daily affairs.

Take time to stretch into that inner space where outer events cannot disturb you that's where many answers are found.

Make it a daily ritual to listen to nature with an intent to learn something new, and that which was lost is found deep inside of you.

Life's intent is to give you a real taste of everything that is rich and beautiful. It's up to you to attain these precious moments on your own.
Sing gibberish from your heart until your total being feels in rhythm with life.

7 Things My Cat Taught Me
About Life
Jackson Galaxy
If your cat was peeing on your bed, I'm the guy who would come to your house and help him stop. I'm what you would call a cat behaviorist or a cat expert, and yes, I do this for a living.
I didn't choose this path or grow up thinking, "I want to be a cat behaviorist." It chose me.
On my show, My Cat from Hell, I help people find ways to strengthen their relationships with their cats, and many of the methods I use and teach are ones that I developed while working in the trenches at an animal shelter.

Since I began working with cats, I've met tens of thousands of felines, in shelters and in homes. But the one cat who taught me the most was Benny. Benny was what I like to call the original cat from hell--seven pounds of feline frustration who I loved with all my heart. My book, CAT DADDY: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love and Coming Clean, centers on my relationship with Benny--the one who taught me the most.

I don't play favorites. My house was always full of critters, but Benny demanded more than the others in every way. He was challenged physically and challenging behaviorally. He put me through my CAT DADDY paces for almost fourteen years and kept me humble.
At the same time, Benny was witness to and participant in the most chaotic period of my life. Without him and without the critical lessons he and many of the other special animals in my life have taught me over the years, I may not have survived--and I certainly wouldn't have made it as far as I have.
These are the some of the key things I learned from my journey with Benny:
1. PATIENCE
https://64.media.tumblr.com/66f4b203219d46d73d5511c39f2a2541/54a68b649901a2da-65/s640x960/024c04c8ca44f0f8db4984f3e33307c333cedd96.jpg
On my best day, I don't have the patience to cook pasta without throwing it across the room. That particular character flaw serves me not one bit when it comes to observing, diagnosing and working with troubled cats. I was consulting on a case the other day where the guardian was so frustrated with what his cat was doing that he actually hit the cat as I stood watching. Then he shot me a shamed look as if to say, "I'm sorry - I had no choice!" Without the patience Benny had instilled in me, I likely would have followed that energetically charged lead and yelled at my client. Instead, Benny was in my head saying: "You think this is bad? You haven't completely forgotten our 13 years together, have you?" That's the level of patience he taught me.

2. DETACHMENT
https://64.media.tumblr.com/eac63fc282cee3cda46365212d63f813/53f31b827c21bb87-c5/s1280x1920/a3ebed415b430bf4635266a8e2276c40dc08c0ba.jpg
On every consult that I do, the first lesson I teach is detachment. You've dealt with your cat's issues for so long and are so enmeshed in the situation. Unknowingly, you've heaped emotionality on top of your own home-brewed diagnoses and created nothing but resentments. The best thing I can do is help detach you from the poisonous way of looking at things--so that you don't react out of frustration. I give initial rounds of homework based on sharpening your cat mojo - training you to be a better cat detective. Rewind the tape when you observe a negative behavior; When was the last time you fed your cat? When was the last time you played with your cat? What's going on outside your house? These are fundamental questions to ask when you're trying to solve these issues. If it feels personal, then you're exactly where you shouldn't be, and that's something that Benny taught me. When the being you share your life with presents you with mind-bending challenges, you adapt.

3. LOVE & HATE ARE 2 SIDES OF THE SAME COIN
Image from johnny's blog
You can't have one strong emotion without the other being just around the corner. I had to ground myself in that thought often, especially when dealing with Benny on a particularly difficult day. I'd think, why were you brought to me? Why are we still together? What is the lesson? Is there more harm than good in this equation? But there was a moment every day where we would just be together and all those thoughts of "why can't you just be a normal cat?" just fell away, replaced by the peaceful and the unconditional that ultimately defined our life together.

4. BE NON-JUDGMENTAL
 https://64.media.tumblr.com/ba5c451b4401e4afdb07ad45152705c9/846f29a83c16bd4f-be/s1280x1920/46a88208caae06d236968b4443104bd35c2995d3.jpg
As humans, we so badly want everyone to fall into a category. You want to be able to read them by their cover and put them into boxes. But you can't. One behavior, one action means nothing in the context of a lifetime. Cats, I think have a much easier time of accepting "bad behavior" by another, and moving forward. Take, for instance, the person who strikes his cat as I'm taking him through an exercise - how badly do you want to say he's a bad person? But he's not. The next moment, you see him interacting with and loving on his cat, and we are all presented with a teachable moment because I didn't close the door on him. Benny taught me about releasing judgment long enough to achieve that elusive breakthrough.

5. LIVE IN THE MOMENT
https://64.media.tumblr.com/954519c564a11a08f413f8bbc5c5e0f6/846f29a83c16bd4f-d0/s1280x1920/40cbf7b386c5dce75bc7d4faee94018e4cddec6d.jpg
Watching a cat like Benny who struggled to breathe or to even walk comfortably for much of his life find joy in the warmth of a bed or the pleasure of a strange little toy reminds you that you have to find a little joy every day. Benny was in a lot of discomfort, both physically and psychologically. But cats are kings of the moment to moment. They're not thinking about what they have to deal with tomorrow, bills to pay, arguments they just had or hatchets that need burying tomorrow. They're thinking about the toy lodged under the fridge, or the treat rattling around in your closed hands. Their daily challenges reside squarely in the present.

6. SOME THINGS AREN'T WORTH FIGHTING OVER
#Cats from Nature
Benny taught me how to ask myself "Is this worth fighting about or is this just me wanting to fight?" In the wild, cats always have to make the fight or flight decision. And to be sure, not one of those decisions are ego-based or frivolous. In the cat world, drama for drama's sake has no place at the table, that's for sure. Even though Benny did pick fights, he only picked them when he thought it was necessary. Just recently, through meditation and through watching Benny (as well as other cats), I've learned the concept that you win battles by not picking them - by not making yourself sick over conflict or the stress of your day. There are things that you need to fight for, but many of the things that you think you need to fight for, you don't.
7. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
#Cat from Nature
Animals teach me on a daily basis what I still need to strive for as a human when it comes to being able to love and be loved by other humans. All that matters to animals is the completion of their world that happens in the company of you and the others that define their territory. It's a pure moment to moment thing like no other. Words don't get in the way and past actions don't get in the way. There's a level of stillness in love that humans don't share even remotely often enough. Maybe that's why we look to animals so much in our lives. However, it's a lesson that we two-legged beings need to learn.

Pizza Month 🍕 October

🍕 National  Pizza  Month 🍕
#Pizza from FOOD
🇮🇹  👇 🍕 👇  🇺🇸
National Pizza Month
National Pizza Month in October gives us 31 days to explore the world of pizza and all the flavors it offers. As if we needed any excuse to celebrate and indulge in the delectable, mouthwatering, satisfying meal that is pizza. It's actually National Pasta Month and Italian-American Heritage Month as well, so feel free to spend October doing some major carb-loading.

Pizza surfaced in 1889 when it was made for Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita on a trip in Naples. It's been a fan-favorite in countries all over the world since then, and it's easy to see why.

HOW TO OBSERVE  National Pizza Month
Order (or make) your favorite pizza, snap a picture, and use #NationalPizzaMonth to post on social media. Can you guess what the most posted food of all time on Instagram is? That's right. Pizza. Because you can't argue with its perfection and beauty. Whether you prefer the thick slices of Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza, the thin crusted, more oil based slices of Neapolitan-style, or somewhere in between, pizza should be considered a staple of your diet (because life is short and it makes everything better.) Here are a few extra reasons pizza is the best.
🍕 It's perfect at any time of day. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner... There's a specific kind of pizza for whatever you're looking for.
🍕 Pizza leftovers are just as yummy as fresh pizza. You don't even have to warm it up to enjoy it on day two!
🍕 It does a phenomenal job of bringing people together. Thinking about having some friends over for drinks this weekend? Tell them you'll have pizza too. They won't miss it.
🍕 You can almost always get it delivered to your door within an hour, even in the middle of the night.
🍕 If you're vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free, you can still find a pizza that works for you! Pizza doesn't discriminate.
By the way, I wish I could explain to you all how difficult it's been for me to write this article. I have seen over 50 pictures of every kind of pizza imaginable and I'm starting to shake, my stomach is growling, and my mouth is watering. Please, if you're reading this, go have a big slice for me.

National Pizza Month HISTORY
National Pizza Month began in October 1984 and was created by the publisher of Pizza Today magazine and pizzeria owner, Gerry Durnell. He chose October because it's the month the first issue of his magazine debuted. He lived in a small town called Santa Claus, Indiana, and realized there was nothing to support his growing pizza business, or the pizza industry in general. Since he created a pizza-themed magazine, as well as started an official month to celebrate this wonderful food, we thank him from the bottom of our stomachs!

A Pizza Company Has Finally Gone The Distance
And Put Tiny Chairs To Match The Little Table
That Comes With Pizzas

What’s the best way to enjoy a box of pizza?
#Pizza Day from FOOD
                           Boston Pizza surely knows how.
By placing a tiny pizza table and chairs inside its pizza boxes, it adds another layer of fun to our favorite pizza. We usually find a tiny white plastic standing right at the center of the pie. It is called a pizza saver and it serves to protect the box from touching the pizza and ruining it along the way. Since the pizza saver itself looks like a miniature table, Boston Pizza decided to complete the patio ensemble by adding two mini chairs. “Patio season is a big deal for Canadians,” Boston Pizza’s senior director of marketing, Adrian Fuoco said. “This was all about creating something fun that was part of our larger patio season initiative. Ultimately, we found a way to bring together the two things we’re passionate about — patios and pizza.”
And we couldn’t agree more. The tiny pizza table and chairs on top of the pizza are indeed refreshing features that would get us more excited to open the box. The mini pizza patio was a part of the restaurant’s campaign and it has gone viral ever since. We can say that the ad campaign was a huge success and the minds behind it are incredibly genius. Plus, the tiny pizza table and chairs are food-safe and reusable. You can use them as topping ornaments for other foods or you can use it as a miniature home décor, whichever you prefer.
Boston Pizza has yet to announce how long this ad campaign would last. But people are hoping that the restaurant continues to add the cute patio set inside its pizza boxes. Should other pizza chains follow suit and ditch their boring pizza savers with a cutesy patio set? We’re not so sure about that but we’re having our fingers crossed. We definitely need these tiny pizza table and chairs.
If you wanted to recreate your own miniature scene on your pizza, then there are lots of different miniature dollhouse table and chair sets you could use here. Take below for example.

What is the History of National Pizza Month ?
🇮🇹    🍕    🇺🇸
National Pizza Month was created in October 1984 by the founder of Pizza Today magazine, Gerry Durnell. Durnell, a pizzeria owner in the small town of Santa Claus, Indiana, wanted to celebrate the growing popularity of pizza in the United States and promote his new magazine at the same time.
🍕
Initially, the event was more of a promotional campaign than a cultural celebration, but it quickly gained momentum as pizza fans and pizzerias across the nation embraced the idea. Before long, restaurants, pizza chains, and consumers were all celebrating National Pizza Month each October with special deals, new recipes, and fun events.
🍕
Over the years, National Pizza Month has evolved into a month-long tribute to the beloved dish, which originated in Naples, Italy in the late 18th century. The month is now a time to explore new pizza flavors, learn about pizza history, and show appreciation for the talented chefs who bring their own unique takes to this classic comfort food.
🍕
National Pizza Month has also inspired the creation of local pizza events, such as community pizza bake-offs and best pizza contests, giving even more opportunities for pizza fans to come together and share their love for this iconic dish.

Pizza Facts For National Pizza Day 9th February
🍕
Today marks the annual National Pizza Day, a day to celebrate all things doughy, cheesy and tomatoey. Whether it’s stuffed crust, thin and crispy or a deep pan that you prefer, there’s nothing better than sinking your teeth into a slice of pizza. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together a couple of pizza facts to get you in the mood for a meat feast or two later on.
🍕
What are the most popular toppings?
A recent survey found that pepperoni was the most popular pizza topping across the world. Whilst that’s hardly surprising, the inclusion of olives, tuna and spinach in the top ten is a little more so. But what’s most worrying is that somebody paid for that survey – surely it was common sense?
🍕
How many pounds of pepperoni are consumed on pizzas within a year?
There is over 250,000,000 pounds worth of pepperoni consumed on pizzas throughout the year. Yes, that is a massive number and a hell of a lot of pepperoni. But who’s surprised? Pepperoni is only the best pizza topping EVER.
🍕
Just how fast do we eat it?
We go through over 350 slices of pizza every second. 21,000 slices every minute. That works out at over 2600 large 8-slice pizzas every since minute. Wow. So much pizza puts the pizza market into it’s billions where value is concerned. It’s no wonder that there’s so many pizza shops.
🍕
Who has the weirdest toppings?
Pizzeria’s in Japan are no strangers to offering mayonnaise topped pizzas so they probably come out on top. Whilst it’s not bad as a dip, switching out your tomato sauce for mayonnaise is a little bit too far. But saying that, supermarket desert pizza’s with custard and jam are a little on the weird side.
🍕
How many people eat it?
Surprisingly, only 93% of people across the world eat pizza. Only 93%? Why on earth isn’t that figure at 100 is the question on our lips. They even make gluten free, dairy free, vegan options these days so we can’t see any other reason.
🍕
Pizza is a matter of mathematics.
Seriously there’s a mathematical theorem named after your favorite food. It’s called the Pizza Theorem and basically says that no matter how you cut up a circle, there will be two pieces of the same shape in there somewhere. That’s great news considering we’ve got to slice a shared pizza.
🍕
Where is the most expensive pizza found?
The little island of Malta of course! Whilst you can pick up a $1000 dollar pizza complete with caviar in New York City, Margo’s Pizzeria in Malta takes the slice. Their white truffle & gold leaf topping costs a whopping £1800! Maybe a little out of our budget but maybe Nicholas Cage can try it out for us because Pizza is his favorite dish.

#Circadian Rhythm from FOOD#Noodle from FOOD
History
World Vegetarian Day was first enacted by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 as a way to promote the vegetarian lifestyle among non-vegetarians. A year later, it would become adopted by the International Vegetarian Union. Over the past four decades it has slowly gained popularity as more and more people began looking at the moral, economic and environmental issues surrounding the consumption of meat.

Facts About Vegetarianism
The country with the largest vegetarian population is India. About two-thirds of the world’s vegetarians currently reside in India and the country accounts for more vegetarians than any other country in the world.
A recent study done in Great Britain showed that the IQ of a child could be used to predict whether that child would become a vegetarian or not. According to this study, the higher a child’s IQ the more likely they are to become a vegetarian.

Famous vegetarians include Mohandas Gandhi, Jane Goodall, Sri Chinmoy, George Benard Shaw, John Harvey Kellogg, Meat Loaf, Benjamin Franklin, Sir Isaac Newton, Mark Twain and Henry Ford.

Conclusion
World Vegetarian Day is a day for everyone to take a look at their eating habits and to reflect on how those eating habits may affect one’s health, society and the environment. It is also a day that allows people to try out the vegetarian lifestyle without committing to it completely.
