A man on the brink of retirement found an alternative way to live out his "golden" years: by spending them in a Holiday Inn rather than a Retirement Home.

Texas, resident Terry Robison, 64, worked out a detailed comparison between the two options, and the mid-priced hotel chain appeared to win out by a landslide.
The benefits of Holiday Inn, Robison added, also include free toothpaste, razors, shampoo and soap. An additional $5 a day in tips will "have the entire staff scrambling to help you" as well, he wrote.
"They treat you like a customer, not a patient," he said. Holiday Inn also provides a
spa, swimming pool, gym, lounge and washer-dryers, but the amenities don't stop there.

The location where Robison checked out reservations has a city bus stop right in front, where seniors can ride for free.  In addition, guests can "take the airport shuttle bus" to eat at one of the restaurants at the local airport for "a change of scenery," he wrote. From there, they can take a flight to another Holiday Inn as well, he mused.
"You're not stuck in one place forever - you can move from Inn or Inn, or even from city to city," he wrote.
The competition to find a comfortable room isn't as steep either, he wrote.  "It takes months to get into decent nursing homes," he wrote. "Holiday Inn will take your reservation today."  And the maintenance is virtually nonexistent, he figured.
"TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem."They fix everything, and apologize for the inconvenience."

Robison
did not mention what kind of health he is in, but said staff like a security guard or maid could check to see if he is OK as well as call an ambulance or an undertaker, whichever is needed.
"If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life," he wrote, adding that he'd face his "golden age" with "a grin."

Could Living Out Your Life in a Holiday Inn
Be Cheaper Than a Nursing Home?
By Jake Rossen - Feb 25, 2019
In a wry commentary on the financial and logistical issues that come with advancing age, a number of people have proposed a more economically sound alternative to assisted living. Rather than enter a nursing home, they're suggesting an extended stay at a Holiday Inn hotel - continental breakfast included.
Here's the Theory:
If you assume an average daily cost of $188 for a nursing home — although according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the national average is actually $253 for a private room - the $59.23 nightly rate for seniors at a Holiday Inn hotel compares pretty favorably. The rate includes housekeeping services, free continental breakfast, complimentary toiletries, exercise equipment, and laundry. Socializing is available via lobbies or bar happy hours.
Variations on this unique strategy date back to at least 2011, with some mentioning a brochure that's been disseminated making a case for hotel retirement. More recently, a Facebook post by Virginia man  was picked up by Michigan CBS affiliate WWMT and has renewed interest in the idea.
There are obviously some gaps in such logic, specifically the idea that a hotel is equipped to monitor and care for elderly occupants with the same qualifications as staff in a nursing home or assisted-living facility.  A maid can change bedding but is highly unlikely to assist with bathroom needs or helping physically compromised patients get around. You're also not going to find a Holiday Inn hotel tackling the potential liabilities involved in dispensing medication.
Then again, for those without such needs, it's not as far-fetched as it sounds. People on a fixed income, such as Social Security, might find good reason to consolidate housing costs in an extended-stay environment.

The idea speaks more to the financial crunch experienced by the elderly. People who are no longer able to live on their own are often faced with funding their "golden years" out of pocket, as health insurance and Medicare or Medicaid only cover such facilities in limited circumstances.
Many people wind up dipping into savings, annuities, or reverse mortgages; others find they don't have the means to pay at all. The fact that a hotel chain can provide some of these services at a more reasonable cost than locations dedicated to assisted living is a rather alarming indictment of health care options for an aging population.

I have a similar idea...but will do this on a cruise ship with all back-to-back sailings. I can get a cheaper interior room. I will have 3 delicious meals a day. I will have access to health care on the shop if needed. I will have a gym work out area, a swimming pool and hot tub. There will be entertainment nightly. I can visit ports, or just stay and relax on the ship. I can on many ships do my own laundry, or send it out for a fee. Some ships have a library. And many times cruisers set up meet and greets and card games. etc. This is far cheaper than a Nursing home, and a heck.of a lot more fun!!!

Would a Hotel be Cheaper than a Nursing Home?
One man's Facebook post has gone viral saying he’d rather live out his life at a Holiday Inn than at a nursing home because a hotel is so much cheaper.

First of all the post is not even originally his.
Holiday and told us this version or something similar version since 2004. And  from 2016.
As for the rates the hotel chain says there is
no way to guarantee $59 a nights because rates change constantly and are based on the hotel region and location.
That doesn't mean that a nursing home will not cost more.
According to the 2018 cost of care survey the average nightly price of a nursing home in the Houston areas $168 a night for semi private room and
$230 for private room.
We also can verify that
this claim needs a lot of context and you should be careful comparing a hotel to home.
The nursing home provides around-the-clock care and around-the-clock care and medical supervision three meals a day and assistance with everyday activities including some rehab.
Hotels you get a daily breakfast and some clean sheets.
If you need medical help he claims that he will just ask someone to call an ambulance.
But when your life is on the line, are you comfortable counting on the front desk? 😏
