Comments:

• Altonahh10 : Masur was always mentioned as one of the Strauss experts. And how he treats this delicate music is a sensation. Norman is a miracle. She is floating on the orchestra, her breath, the breaks, the transitions she creates are unique. And once again it seems as if Strauss knew that one day there would be a soprano who completely understood his intentions. Jessye Norman has it all.  
• Felipe Zava:  This is, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful and ethereal melodies of western music. Die Vier Letzten Lieder Strauss composed is indeed a masterpiece we have been blessed with.   
• enriqueali:  Truly one of the most sublime recordings of this wonderful song. There may be equally compelling versions of the entire set of four ( Schwarzkopf and Gundula Janowitz)  but I have to confess that for this one song  in particular, I always turn first to this Jessye Norman recording.   
• Ratty Woof:  Yes, the singing is superb beyond belief, but the violin solo from 2:00 0 is also utterly beautiful - this is a performance to treasure.  One of my desert island discs I think!
