Observations Over the Past Few Weeks

A Few Observations
Over the Past Few Weeks
I hope they give us two weeks notice before sending us back out into the real world.
I think we'll all need the time to become ourselves again.
And by "ourselves" I mean lose 10 pounds, cut our hair and get used to not drinking at 9:00 a.m.

New monthly budget:
Gas............... $0.00
Entertainment  $0.00
Clothes...........  $0.00
Groceries......... $2,799

Breaking News:
Wearing a mask inside your home is now highly recommended.
Not so  much to stop COVID-19, but to stop eating.

Low maintenance chicks are having their moment right now.
We don't have nails to file and paint, roots to dye, eyelashes to re-mink, and are thrilled not to have to get dressed every day.
I have been training for this moment my entire life!

When this quarantine is over, let's not tell some people.

I stepped on my scale this morning.  It said:
"Please practice social distancing. Only one person at a time on scale."

Not to brag, but I haven't been late to anything in over 6 weeks.

It may take a village to raise a child but I swear its going to take a vineyard to home school one.

I wanted zombies and anarchy.
Instead we got working from home and toilet paper shortages.
Worst Apocalypse. Ever.

You know those car commercials where there's only vehicle on the road
- doesn't seem so unrealistic these days...

They can open things up next month,
I'm staying in until July to see what happens to you all first.

Day 37:
The garbage man placed an AA flyer on my recycling bin.

The spread of Covid-19 is based on two things:
1. How dense the population is.
2. How dense the population is.

Appropriate analogy:
"The curve is flattening so we can start lifting restrictions now”
=  "The parachute has slowed our rate of descent, so we can take it off now".

People keep asking:
"Is corona-virus REALLY all that serious?"
Listen y'all, the churches and casinos are closed.
When heaven and hell agree on the same thing it's probably pretty serious.

Never in a million years could I have imagined I would go up to a bank teller wearing a mask and ask for money.

Home school Day 1:
I'm trying to figure out how I can get this kid transferred out of my class.

Okay, the schools are closed.
So do we drop the kids off at the teacher's house or what?

Putting a drink in each room of my house today and calling it a pub crawl.

For the second part of this quarantine do we have to stay with the same family or will they relocate us?
Asking for myself ...

Corona-virus has turned us all into dogs.
We wander around the house looking for food.
We get told "No" if we get too close to strangers and we get really excited about going for walks and car rides.

The dumbest thing I've ever bought was a 2020 planner...

I was in a long line at 7:45 am today at the grocery store that opened at 8:00 for seniors only.  A young man came from the parking lot and tried to cut in at the front of the line, but an old lady beat him back into the parking lot with her cane.
He returned and tried to cut in again but an old man punched him in the gut, then kicked him to the ground and rolled him away.
As he approached the line for the 3rd time he said, "If you don't let me unlock the door, you'll never get in there."

Enjoy your day!
You don't have anything else to do.

NYC’s Statues of Women 🌷Decked out in Flowers

Fearless Girl & NYC’s Statues of Women
Are Decked out in Flowers

There are more than 100 historical statues across New York City, but only five of them are of women.
On Thursday, that painfully small group of public pieces (plus the iconic Fearless Girl) got an extra set of flair.

To commemorate International Women’s Day, Old Navy adorned the statues with robust floral installations.
For just one day, passersby can snap photos with Gertrude Stein (Bryant Park) Joan of Arc (93rd St and Riverside Drive), Eleanor Roosevelt (72 Street and Riverside Drive), Harriet Tubman (122nd Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd), Golda Meir (Broadway and 39th Street) and the now-permanent Fearless Girl (8 Broadway at Trinity Place), all decked out with flowery arrangements.

The brand also announced on Thursday that it will be donating $25,000 to the Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony Fund, which aims to create a monument to women’s suffrage in Central Park. Currently, all 23 of the historical statues in the park honor men, which is pretty baffling until you remember the long, terrible, oppressive history of the American patriarchy.

Gawk at images of the decorated statues below, and continue celebrating International Women’s Day at events across town.

With Floral Pop-ups All Over The City
Posted by newyorkrag on June 11, 2019
Today, LEAF – a city-wide festival of Flowers, with all the grit, energy and vitality New York has to offer – announced its launch in Manhattan in June 2020.
To celebrate the announcement, LEAF brings a riot of color across the city with #NYFlowerWeek, blooming on Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12, 2019. Featuring a series of official pop-up floral installations against some of Manhattan’s most iconic statues and plazas, New Yorkers will be able to come together and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Renowned New York-based florist and creator of the Flower Flash ™, Lewis Miller of Lewis Miller Design, has designed the centerpiece installation for #NYFlowerWeek, adorning Rockefeller Center’s iconic ‘Atlas’ statue with an elaborate floral garland. New York-based floral designer Kelsea Olivia Gaynor of East Oliva, a female-led floral and creative styling agency, will curate two of the official installations featured across Manhattan.
“Today, the world of Floriculture is in full bloom. In a city with an abundance of great floral design and designers, I am so pleased to present LEAF, a city-wide festival of Flowers,” said Moira Breslin, Founder of LEAF. “An opportunity for all New Yorkers to come together and enjoy the beauty of nature.”

“The Flower Flash was born out of a need to give back and do good. I love bringing Nature into such a gritty, urban environment and surprising unknowing New Yorkers with a geyser of fresh cut flowers bursting out of a New York City litter bin. Seasons are vanishing. Nature’s bounty and unbridled beauty is a luxury that everyone should be able to appreciate and enjoy. I am thrilled to partner with LEAF to quite literally bring Manhattan to full bloom. My hope is to reach a larger audience with my Flower Flashes and produce a positive emotional response through flowers,” said Lewis Miller, renowned Florist of Lewis Miller Design and creator of the Flower Flash.

Flowers are this planet’s greatest showmen. Floral designer, Lewis Miller shares with us their universal appeal and recounts his personal connection to these ephemeral stunners and how he got the nickname The Banksy of Floral Design. Born and raised in California farm country, Lewis Miller developed a respect for nature at a very young age. When he was 18 years old, he moved to Seattle where he studied horticulture and landscape design. After seven years of successfully pursuing his interest in design, flowers and event planning, Lewis moved to New York City in 2000 where he worked for one of the city’s top floral boutiques.

In March 2002, Lewis launched his own company: LMD New York, Lewis Miller Design. It quickly became one of the premiere floral design houses in New York City. Miller's clients include the world's leading industry professionals in fashion, design, photography, art direction and architecture. Clients include Bulgari, Carolina Herrera, Richard Meier, Mayor Bloomberg, and JP Morgan Chase, just to name a few.  With over a decade of experience, LMD has grown into one of the most sought after and well-respected multi-event production houses in the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Ray Charles 🎷Hit the Road Jack ♫ Et al

Ray Charles
Writer: Percy Mayfield
Producer: Sid Feller
Released: Sept. '61, ABC-Paramount  - No. 1 - 11 weeks;

Hit the Road Jack" is a song written by the rhythm and blues artist Percy Mayfield and first recorded in 1960 as an a cappella demo sent to Art Rupe. It became famous after it was recorded by the singer-songwriter-pianist Ray Charles with The Raelettes vocalist Margie Hendrix.
https://66.media.tumblr.com/90d72f54d7fd534ef063767415e95e0e/a6f1a5c66189be94-ac/s640x960/e8397b62dfa28362213b583849171f961e5e5537.jpg
Charles's recording hit number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning on Monday, October 9, 1961. "Hit the Road Jack" won a Grammy award for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording. The song was number one on the R&B Sides chart for five weeks, thereby becoming Charles's sixth number-one on that chart. The song is ranked number 387 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Charles asked Mayfield, a one-time R&B hitmaker whose performing career was curtailed by a car accident in 1952, if he had any songs for Charles to record.
Mayfield offered up "Hit the Road Jack."
The snarling female vocal was provided by Margie Hendricks of the Raelettes
Hendricks' affair with Charles produced a son in 1959; Charles fired her from the Raelettes in 1964.
