Laptops Can Cause "Toasted Skin Syndrome"

Laptops Can Cause
"Toasted Skin Syndrome"

Erythema ab igne

(EAI, also known as hot water bottle rash, fire stains, laptop thigh, and toasted skin syndrome) is a skin condition caused by long-term exposure to heat (infrared radiation).

Keeping the heated surface of the laptop against your skin for extended periods of time can cause ‘toasted skin syndrome’ . In this syndrome, skin develops a patch which is mottled (caused by local hemostasis – stagnation of blood) and later becomes reticulated erythema (patchy striped erythema) leaving behind pigmentation.

Toasted Skin Syndrome is clinically known as Erythema Ab Igne and commonly known by various names such as ‘laptop thigh’ and ‘hot water bottle rash’.
People who spend prolonged periods of time studying, reading , or playing games on laptops resting on their upper legs could develop this skin syndrome.

The same condition is found among people often exposed to heat while working (blacksmiths, silversmiths, cooks, etc).

SOME HOT LAPTOP SOLUTIONS:
You can also install undervolting software like RMClock. Same performance but less power consumption and thus less heat

Balancing your laptop on your knees could cause permanent discoloration of the skin and, in rare cases, cancer, doctors have warned.
-
Common in the days before central heating, when people huddled around fires and electric heaters to stay warm, it is making a comeback in the laptop generation.
-
Major computer manufacturers including Apple, Hewlett Packard and Dell warn in user manuals against placing laptops on laps or exposed skin for extended periods because of the risk of burns.
